Wedding Ceremony by DJ Jack ‘Jacky B’ Barros. In this section, you will find a ceremony music checklist. Use this checklist to help you decide what parts of the wedding will have music played. Also, included in this section of the site are wedding song lists for each potential part of an American wedding. Included are song lists for the wedding prelude, seating of the mothers and honored guests, the grooms entrance, the wedding processional, the brides entrance, wedding unity ceremony, wedding recessional music and the wedding postlude. Many brides today want to write their own wedding vows, so I have included some sample wedding vows for Christian and secular (non-religious) weddings.
Following you will find wedding ceremony scenarios for you to determine what equipment your wedding DJ should use for your ceremony. For most DJ companies, wedding ceremonies are an add on to their package offerings. I believe that the ceremony is the most important part of the wedding process. The standard DJ industry wedding ceremony package includes a basic speaker setup, the DJ’s console and one microphone. The setup is great for smaller weddings, less than 75 people, enclosed in a smaller room.
There are challenges when factors change. Those factors are whether the ceremony is indoors or outside, how many people will be speaking, usually readers and the number of guests that will be attending the ceremony. Following is a list of various wedding ceremony scenarios and the minimum type of system in my opinion needed to provide a good performance.
Wedding Ceremony Scenario #1
Where: Indoors
Who will be talking: Officiant, Bride & Groom
How many guests: 25 – 75
SYSTEM Needed: Standard sound system that includes 2 speakers, one microphone and a DJ console.
Wedding Ceremony Scenario #2 Added Guests
Where: Indoors
Who will be talking: Officiant, Bride & Groom
How many guests: 75 – 150 guests
SYSTEM Needed: Premium sound system that include 4 speakers, one microphone and a DJ console
Wedding Ceremony Scenario #3 Added Readers
Where: Indoors
Who will be talking: Officiant, Bride & Groom, Readers
How many guests: 25 – 75 guests
SYSTEM Needed: Standard sound system that include 2 speakers, two microphones and a DJ console
Wedding Ceremony Scenario #4 Added Readers and Guests
Where: Indoors
Who will be talking: Officiant, Bride & Groom
How many guests: 75 – 150 guests
SYSTEM Needed: Premium sound system that include 4 speakers, two microphones and a DJ console
In Scenarios 5 – 8 the location has moved outdoors. Due to wind conditions I recommend that the groom wear a lavalier (lapel) microphone.
Wedding Ceremony Scenario #5
Where: Outdoors
Who will be talking: Officiant, Bride & Groom
How many guests: 25 – 75 guests
SYSTEM Needed: Standard sound system that include 2 speakers, one handheld microphone and one lavalier (lapel) microphone and a DJ console
Wedding Ceremony Scenario #6 Added Guests
Where: Outdoors
Who will be talking: Officiant, Bride & Groom
How many guests: 75 – 150 guests
SYSTEM Needed: Premium sound system that include 4 speakers, one handheld microphone and one lavalier (lapel) microphone and a DJ console
Wedding Ceremony Scenario #7 Added Readers
Where: Outdoors
Who will be talking: Officiant, Bride & Groom, Readers
How many guests: 25 – 75 guests
SYSTEM Needed: Standard sound system that include 2 speakers, two handheld microphones and one lavalier (lapel) microphone and a DJ console
Wedding Ceremony Scenario #8 Added Readers and Guests
Where: Outdoors
Who will be talking: Officiant, Bride & Groom, Readers
How many guests: 75 – 150
SYSTEM Needed: Premium sound system that include 4 speakers, two handheld microphones and one lavalier (lapel) microphone and a DJ console
Important Notes
Additional Guests: Over 150 guests, depending on location, I would recommend adding 2 additional speakers per 75 guests added
Microphones: Standard handheld microphones need microphone stands
Officiants: Many do not need a microphone for smaller weddings
Scenarios I have listed the minimum required system. In most scenarios, I recommend that the Officiant use a microphone, the groom use a lavalier microphone and use a premium sound system.
