How to Choose a Wedding Introduction Style

Hello my name is Jack Barros, professional wedding DJ and author of Modern Wedding Ceremony 101. An eBook on American wedding ceremonies available to you on my website.

welcome to the next edition in the Wedding Reception Planning series. How to Choose a Wedding Introduction Style.

In previous articles we discussed that there are a lot of traditions that you can have in your wedding reception but you don’t have to have any of them some of them or make up your own. One tradition that endures is the introduction into the wedding reception.

In this article we will discuss how to choose a wedding introduction style. Will you choose a relaxed casual introduction for the first time as newlyweds or will you have a loud and rowdy, party type introduction to the world.

First, how formal is your wedding reception going to be? Your wedding reception introduction helps to set the stage for what kind of a reception party you are going to have.

While you may not enjoy the spotlight on you, this is your introduction into the formal reception, I suggest making your intro interesting or memorable in some way. Let your guests know that after dinner they are in for a great time. In many parts of the country, such as in the Boston, MA area, nothing really happens until after dinner.

Have you ever been to a wedding that dragged on and on and just never seemed to end? You look at your date and start looking for the closest exit. I am sure you do not want that type of wedding reception.

The reason this happens is that while the bride and groom have had an extremely busy day, your guests have been waiting for you to join them. Many of them attended the ceremony and went immediately to the reception venue. Prior to the reception starting it is typical for the wedding party and close family members to gather for formal pictures.

During this time, we typically provide our guests with appetizers and background music. From the start of the ceremony to the start of the introductions could be 1 to 3 hours. There is not a lot of activity that keeps your guests entertained. Your introduction can add energy and excitement into your reception that will carry through dinner.

The easiest way to show your wedding introduction style is with the music you choose. There are many different types of music and music tempos to choose from. For low key wedding receptions, you may choose love songs for your introduction. Want your guests to get into a dance mood? I recommend something upbeat and fun.

Now that you have an idea of your introduction style, it is time to pick the music that will aid in setting just the right tone for your reception.  What we will talk about is how many songs should you use in your wedding reception introduction?

You can have as many songs as there are people in your wedding party! While that used to be difficult for your wedding entertainers to accomplish, it is now much easier for your professional wedding DJ to provide.

One factor to consider when choosing songs, is how long will it take the person being introduced to walk in the room? Is there enough time for the relevant section of the song to play?

Often brides and grooms will choose songs for the various parts of the bridal party. For the parents you will choose a song from your parents’ generation, while choosing music from your own generation for your bridal party.

Another choice is playing one song for the parents and formal bridal party, and one song for the bride and groom. With the simplest choice being to have one song used for all of the introductions.

Music gives you the ability to have the wedding introduction you have always dreamed about.

What style will you choose for your wedding introduction? Leave a comment below with your style or wedding introduction song?

You have been introduced into your wedding reception, now what? Find out in the next article in the Wedding Reception Planning series, What to Do After the Wedding Introduction.

Reggae Wedding Interlude Songs

Reggae Wedding Interlude Songs

The Interlude or the Unity part of the wedding is when the bride, the groom and their families come together after the vows have been said.

There are quite a few ways to do a unity ceremony. In a Candle Ceremony, two thin candles are lit by the two families which in turn will be used to light up a third, bigger candle. This represents the unity of the families. In a Sand Ceremony, the couple mixes together two differently colored sands which often come from beaches that are memorable to the bride and groom.

The length of the unity ceremony depends on the ritual chosen. The playlist needs to be as long as the time it takes for the ritual to be completed. The Candle Ceremony, for example, can be over in three minutes. This is a great time to mix various portions of songs that contain lyrics relevant to the wedding or the ritual.

The unity ceremony

usually just includes the bride and the groom but in some cases the clergy, the parents of the couple, or the bridesmaids and groomsmen also take part. This makes it the best time to personalize your playlist as it’s supposed to be a light period after you have taken your vows.

To make the interlude or unity procedures flow smoothly, you need to be prepared beforehand. A table is usually used for this activity so make sure there is one ready in the area. If you’re doing the Candle Ceremony, make sure that you have a couple of lighters or matchboxes to light up the candle.

When choosing the songs to play during the interlude, you should consider the type of the ceremony. Some rituals need solemn music for the meaning to be understood and felt by the participants and also the guests. If guests will be talking during the interlude, you can use instrumental music.

Although not typically heard in weddings, reggae songs can be fun to play during the interlude or unity ceremony. This is perfect for less formal wedding preparations and guests will surely remember your choice of music genre.

You don’t have to play reggae music for the whole interlude. Just a couple should get your guests singing along.

I Got You Babe by UB40

is one great reggae song that is light and very much familiar. UB40 was formed in Birmingham in 1978. The band members might be British but they sure got the reggae touch right with this song. You can still this song being played in festivals and in some cases, weddings.

Bob Marley

And what’s a reggae playlist without a song from the reggae legend himself, Bob Marley. This great artist literally brought reggae music into the mainstream with his catchy melodies and soul-stirring lyrics. And when you think about Bob Marley, One Love surely comes into mind. It’s a generic song about love which makes it perfect for weddings. It talks about all people getting together, loving each other and praising the Creator.

Alternative Songs for the Grooms Entrance at your Wedding Ceremony

Alternative Songs 4 Grooms Entrance at Wedding Ceremonies

Alternative Songs 4 Grooms Entrance at Wedding Ceremonies

Alternative songs for groom’s entrance to wedding ceremony is the Wedding Ceremony Music Series song list of the week on Jacky B’s Wedding DJ Blog. The grooms entrance is usually very low key and very rarely does a couple choose a song for the groom’s entrance.

This past weekend I did a wedding ceremony in a very scenic location, Whitney’s Inn, Jackson, NH. Recent wedding article coming soon to Jacky B’s Wedding DJ Blog. The groom and best man had to walk a long distance to get to the ceremony and a groom’s entrance song would have been perfect. The groom wanted to enter with as little fanfare as possible and did not want a song, any song to be played. As I had already been playing prelude music, to shut the music off would have been more noticeable, so I continued playing prelude music when they walked over.

Here are some alternative songs for groom’s entrance to wedding ceremony to get you started in choosing the right song for your groom.

Alternative Songs 4 Grooms Entrance at Wedding Ceremonies

Then we watch TV
Until we fall asleep
Not every exciting
But it’s you and me
And we’ll always be together

You and me – always – and forever

You and Me The Wannadies

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can’t you hear the horses
‘Cause here they come

And I never wanted anything from you
Except everything you had
And what was left after that too, oh

Dog Days Are Over Florence and the Machine

There is a wait so long
You’ll never wait so long

Here comes your man

Here Comes Your Man The Pixies

and I will walk with you

using the stars as guides

on a homeward path we go

knowing our time is nigh

I, I will walk to be with you

All that I’ve done, and all I say

To be with you…

Walk With You Dispatch

Love me faster than the devil
Run me straight into the ground
Drownin’ deep inside your water
Drown in love and memories

Love and Memories O.A.R.

I’ll stop the world and melt with you
You’ve seen the difference and it’s getting better all the time
There’s nothing you and I won’t do
I’ll stop the world and melt with you

I Melt With You Modern English

Modern Wedding Ceremony 101

Welcome to the Wedding Reception Planning series. This video series we’ll discuss the various parts of a typical American wedding reception. Furthermore, I strive to provide you the information you need to help plan the wedding reception of your dreams.

Traditions

There are a lot of great traditions in American weddings that you can choose to celebrate. What I love to share with couples is that they can honor those traditions. Or modify an existing tradition. But best of all they can start their own family tradition.

Wedding Introductions

In this article we will be talking about the traditional wedding introduction. You can be introduced into the reception several different ways. Often depending on the type of reception you have chosen. Let us look at some common ways you can be introduced at your wedding reception.

Short Wedding Intro

You may want to introduce just the two of you! “Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen, on behalf of our bride and groom we thank you for joining us for this joyous occasion. I ask you all to please rise. (pause) It gives me great pleasure to introduce Mr. and Mrs. Newly Wed!

Wedding Introduction of Bride and Groom
Triumphant Bride & Groom!

There are a few reasons why you would choose to introduce only the bride and groom. A small, intimate wedding reception. You may have a very small bridal party. Also, an odd number of wedding party participants. Consequently, short wedding intros are also often done at casual, destination and second weddings.

Bridal Party Intro

Your next option is to introduce the Bridal Party! In this scenario you, the bride and groom are introduced after the members of the formal bridal party. The bridal party intro often begins with introducing the flower girl and the ring bearer if you have them. Also includes the brides’ attendants, often called bridesmaids, and ushers also called groomsmen.

Family Intro

Wedding introductions done at formal wedding receptions include the Parents. The parents of the bride, traditionally the hosts of the wedding reception are introduced into the room first.
Today many receptions get paid for by many people.
Parents, couples themselves and even crowd funding websites, like GoFundMe. In this case, your Emcee or wedding DJ will introduce the hosts of the reception into the room first.

Notable Guest Intro

Quite often you will have notable guests to include in your wedding introductions. Notable guests include your grandparents and anyone that participated in the wedding ceremony. Notable guests may be introduced into the room before your parents, or they may also be recognized at their table.
There you have some of the most common introductions at a typical American wedding reception.

Who are you going to introduce?

Find out in the next article in our series specifically who to introduce and when!
Thank for your time! If you have any questions or comments please let us know.
I look forward to our next meeting!
